PIF 300 - Wireless Dog Fence

The PIF 300 is a wireless containment system that you can use with your dog. The PIF 300 is capable of having your dog off leash within a circular area of a maximum of 90 feet (without obstacles), as long as your dog is over the 8 pound minimum limit. The circular range is configurable and can have a minimum of 5 feet (good for indoors) and a maximum of 90 feet (without obstacles).

The maximum range of the device is 180 meters, but from a radius perspective is only 90 meters, so your dog will have 90 meters to walk/run from the boundary to the transmitter in a circle.

This wireless fence is different from many others because it doesn't need you to bury any wires or use stakes to plant your markers. You'll have the fence up and running in less than an hour. After you get acquainted with this device it will take you a lot less time to make it work in any place you go.

One of the big advantages of this fence is that you can use it inside your house too due to the minimum range of 5 feet. It's great if you pretend to create an invisible containment area.

Use some visual aids in the beginning to help your dog understand what the boundaries are. As soon as he starts understanding where his limits are remove all visual aids.

Be carefull with busy roads next to your containment area. This device is good but not perfect and your dog might escape some day due to some reason. Nothing can replace a good wall when it comes to preventing "escapes". So use always your common sense to see if your dog will be really safe using this electronic fence in that particular area. This device is very good but not perfect, never forget that. This device cannot prevent your dog from running away at high speed if he really wants to.

Use whatever you need as a visual aid. Objects on the ground, boxes, stones around the transmitter on the boundary limit. Anything can be used to help your dog understand the boundaries.

One other thing you can do, and it's highly effective, is to use a light rope of about 32 feet (10 meters) and let the dog drag it around the containment area. A rope attached to his collar will give you control over him just in case he runs away at high speed. Just step on the rope and you'll get him. You most likely won't need this, but just in case in the first few days, use every precaution you can. This is a good technique to use in the first days if you live in a more busy area, with people and dogs passing by. It gives you a lot more security until you're sure your dog is conditioned to that particular area.

How does the PIF 300 "stops" my dog from running away?

The central transmitter will be able to correct your dog because the collar he will use will provide the transmitter information on its distance from the central point. The shock collar will have 2 contact points with your dog's neck that will be activated whenever your dog gets to the boundary zone.

The corrections won't be immediate, your dog will get a beep to warn him he's getting close to the "no crossing area". Only if he keeps going into the no-crossing area he will receive a correction with a shock.

Details about the PIF 300

Will the dogs be injured by the corrections?

No, if you configure your transmitter and collar correctly there won't be a problem.

The main device (transmitter) is configurable in:

  • Low or High intensity switch
  • On/Off transmitter switch
  • A dial boundary control – You can adjust your device range
  • On/off led light
  • Only the collar is waterproof, not the transmitter

The collar your dog will use:

  • Waterproof
  • Small battery for remote operation
  • Has 2 contact points of different sizes for different dog sizes
  • Timeout protection of 25 seconds in case your dog gets trapped in the boundary zone
  • Cap covering the stimulant level button
  • Led indicator of low battery

Many dogs will react differently to each level of correction. You should configure the levels of intensity according to your dog sensitivity. For example, don't set it to a high level if you have a small dog.

Final conclusions:

After reading all the advantages, disadvantages and main characteristics of this wireless dog fence, the PIF 300, you should now be able to evaluate if this device is right for you or not. After removing all the hype that the infomercials fire at us, we are the only ones that can make a rational decision. Dont' think this is perfect, you just have to ask yourself if it's going to be perfect for you. This device could me more useful in rural areas, where I live for example, it's just perfect. Although my dogs are well trained, this device gives me a bit of peace of mind and a feeling of safety, knowing I don't have to keep an eye on them every time they are on the loose.

I even bought a car-lighter converter to my transmitter, so my dogs can run away freely on my picnics when I'm sleeping.

After reading this review of the PIF 300 I hope it helped you make a good decision about this product.
